1928 Pontiac 6-28 Coupe
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Cinema History: Featured as a period-correct background vehicle in the 2008 George Clooney film Leatherheads.
- The Look: Authentic "older restoration" patina that only time can create.
- Mechanical: Rare "Split-Head" 6-cylinder; electric start; factory heater.
BODY OVERVIEW:
The body remains remarkably solid for being 98 years old. While it was restored decades ago, the paint has aged, checked, and thinned in areas. In the current market, this "survivor" look is highly coveted. This 1928 Pontiac 6 is a classic two-door that's sure to capture the hearts of vintage car enthusiasts!
PAINT CONDITION OVERVIEW:
While this Pontiac has undergone a restoration, it's important to note that it is an older restoration and as such, there is notable aging on the paint as seen in the photos. However the bold green and black paint with the shiny chrome bumpers, radiator shell, and headlight trim rings makes heads turn.
INTERIOR CONDITION OVERVIEW:
Take a seat inside and you'll be greeted by a cozy and inviting gold/brown interior, a perfect complement to the car's classic green exterior. Yes, there is visible wear and the fabric shows its age, but it remains a cozy, functional space.
MECHANICAL OVERVIEW:
This 1928 Pontiac features a 186-cubic-inch L-head six-cylinder, which was a significant step up in smoothness compared to the four-cylinder rivals of the era. Equipped with a radio, electric starter, and speedometer, this Pontiac 6 is a testament to early automotive innovation and by 1928 standards it is a fairly highly optioned car.
- Current Status: It has spent the last several years as a static museum display.
- Important Note: While it starts and moves under its own power, it is a vintage machine. Before you take it on a 50-mile trek, it will require a standard "wake up" service: fresh fluids, a fuel system flush, and a new set of tires (current tires have tread but are aged).
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE ABOUT THIS CAR:
-
Affordability: One of the most accessible ways to enter the pre-war car hobby.
-
Movie Pedigree: It’s a great conversation starter at any show.
-
Simplicity: No computers, no sensors and just mechanical honesty.
WHAT YOU MIGHT HATE ABOUT THIS CAR:
This is a 1920s machine. It doesn't have blinkers and the brakes require a firm leg. If you are looking for Camry-level reliability, look elsewhere. This is for those that want to tinker with the basic mechanicals of cars. We would consider this a "parade vehicle" with it's wooden wheels. This is not one to go on the highway.
DOES IT NEED ANYTHING?
This Pontiac sat in a museum for years. While it is running and driving, it will need fluids flushed and tire refresh before putting it back on the road. Please note the Horn, Wipers, Brake Lights (likely a simple pressure switch), and a radio that currently only provides period-accurate static need attention.
WHAT BUYER IS LOOKING FOR THIS CAR?
This Pontiac is perfect for buyers who appreciate the nostalgia and history of classic cars that want something different than a Ford. Whether you're a collector looking to add to your vintage car collection or a movie buff hoping to own an affordable piece of cinematic history, this Pontiac 6 is sure to delight!
